Since Bel Ami is premiering tomorrow in the Netherlands there are some reviews coming out. Here’s a great one from Nu.nl. We just translated the few parts that mention Rob, read the entire review (in Dutch) HERE:

One thing is certain: Robert Pattinson, the teen idol that got famous by his part as romantic vampire in the Twilight Saga, is getting a lot more ‘action’ in his latest movie.

Good casting

Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod tell the story [of Bel Ami] in a solid way and have a great cast at their disposal. They’re not using it all to their full capacity, are somewhat too explanatory and have a bit much music, but for the rest there’s nothing really wrong with what they did.

And Pattinson is a good casting for the part of Duroy. He’s a pretty guy, we knew that already, but in Bel Ami he proves that he’s really capable of acting. Charme, sneaky, lust for power and resentment, all combined in one persona: Pattinson makes Bel Ami to be an intriguing presonage.

KNIGHTLEY: I think you could function anywhere. But I think when you get to the big ones, it becomes much more difficult to make it such a personal experience. I enjoy making films like A Dangerous Method more because you get so close with the people you’re working with. You rely on everybody on a very personal level, as a team. Bigger films are more difficult because the number of people is so huge. But the thing about working with you is that there’s always a definitive answer—they’re very much your films and you make the decisions. I find it quite difficult on studio films because there are so many different executives and things like that that you have to go through, so very often getting that definitive opinion is actually quite difficult. I always find it much easier when there’s one person whose vision you’re following, as opposed to many people.

CRONENBERG: Well, a benign dictatorship, I think, is what it’s supposed to be on a film set. But Rob Pattinson, who stars in the film I just shot, Cosmopolis, was commenting on that, too. He was saying that because he’s done these Twilight movies, he was sort of astonished that I could just make a decision right there on the set and that was it. But for me, that’s business as usual, of course.

Interview with FilmInk:

Fortunately, despite the fear that is currently paralysing the film business, Cronenberg already has his nxt film in the can. Cosmopolis is an adaptation of Don DeLilo’s novel about 24 hours in the life of a Manhattan multimillionaire. “I wrote the script in six days, because the book is so cinematic – the dialogue is incredible,” Cronenberg says. ”That was unusual for me – to write a script that quickly. But then it was waiting to go.” The project was brought by him by veteran Portuguese producer, Paolo Branco. ”He flew to Toronto,” Cronenberg says, ”He came with his son, and said, “My son says that you are the right director for this project.”
The only issue was that Cronenberg was lined up to shoot A Dangerous Method. “But Paolo said, ”I will wait for you.” And he did securing the services of one Robert Pattinson in the meantime to play the leading role of Eric Packer, an asset manager who endures a surreal odyssey across New York when he sets out in his hi-tech limo to get his hair cut and finds the car stuck in a monumental traffic jam. ”About 70% of it takes place in the back of a limo.” confirms cronenberg who still had to deal with legions of R-Pattz fans during the shoot. ”It sometimes was a little difficult. But Toronto is relatively repressed, i.e civilized.”
